Before we start, let’s explain the difference between reality and virtual reality.
Virtual reality is a simulation. Anything, that you see or hear there doesn’t exist in actual reality. Simulation means to create something similar to reality. It’s used in many contexts nowadays, including modeling technology simulations for performance optimization, safety engineering, testing, training and education.
In most cases we are in reality but we don’t notice it. We often stuck on our mobile phones or any other devices and we may forget what is happening in the reality. Devices can take us to the virtual reality which doesn’t match with the actual reality at all. Because of that we have many assumptions about us, others and so on. This may lead to complications and emotional problems.
We can avoid that by starting living more in reality. I don’t mean to throw your device away and never touch it again, but to simply take a break.
Suggestions for activities:
- Go outside and take a little walk
- Read a book and learn from it
- Travel and explore the world around you
- Do something creative (draw, play an instrument, write a story…)
- Listen to music
- Do some exercise (running, swimming etc.)
- Meet with your friends or family
- Join a community with similar interests
- Write down what you want to achieve in your life and think about it
- Plan your week or next trip, organize your life
- Cook food you always wanted to try
- Talk to your close person (family member, friend…) face to face
- Start learning new language or a new topic you’re interested in
- Visit a museum or art gallery
As you can see, there are many possibilities! Choose an activity which brings you joy and stop thinking about everything. You can either inspire from this list or choose by yourself what fits your preference the best. Focus on the present. Focus on yourself and the activity you are doing right now.
Priorities?
Reduce your time spent on social media by doing something different, which is more valuable. You will gain new experience and also you will feel happier. Turn off your phone for a little time and start living in the reality sometimes. In fact, really can be actually better when you know how to spend your time here, either with someone or alone.
Then, you can get back to your device with a good feeling that “Today I did something good/useful.”. And you can share your successful day to the world, that’s what is social media about!
